The American fight for freedom from tyranny.  Trending to Socialism is a path away from freedoms. In his first inaugural address, President Ronald Reagan told the American people: "If we look to the answer as to why for so many years we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on earth, it was because here in this land we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before.  Freedom and the dignity of the individual have been more available and assured here than in any other place on earth.  The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price.  It is no coincidence that our present troubles parallel and are proportionate to the intervention and intrusion in our lives that result from unnecessary and excessive growth of government.  It is time for us to realize that we are too great a nation to limit ourselves to small dreams.  We’re not, as some would have us believe, doomed

While not holding to all ideologies of President Reagan, I believe in his statement that, “…It is no coincidence that our present troubles parallel and are proportionate to the intervention and intrusion in our lives that result from unnecessary and excessive growth of government …”    I will also agree with Reagan that someone had to take a hard stance on spending, which he started before ultimately caving in to pressure.  We are seeing the result of endless spending that has gone on since President Coolidge held the reigns – an almost $17 trillion national debt and $117 trillion in unfunded liabilities (Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare).   President Bush is not solely to blame for the recession, despite the endless claims of the current administration.  The spending problems have been ongoing by both parties for a century.  The meltdown of the financial markets was the result of “easy credit” of the 1980’s.   Due Process Ignored Routinely By Courts If a district court denies your case, your chances of success diminish greatly, almost to the point of no chance.  State appellate courts typically side with the district court, tending to simply repeat the judgment.  They miss your arguments and only see what was in the original judgment.  They must wear the same glasses that filter out the opposing arguments. Once the state appellate court denies you, you can then appeal it to the state supreme court.  Your chances just got a lot slimmer again.  In their infinitely wise minds, they must be thinking that the district and appellate courts shot you down for good reason, especially when echoing the same tune.  There appears to be a lot of back scratching going on for one another. Wanting to Believe Something Can Make it Real (To Yourself) New research shows that the more intensely we believe something to be true, the more likely it will resurface in the future, even if we have learned it was false. Cognitive psychologist Andrew Butler of Duke University, psychologist Lisa Fazio of Carnegie Mellon University and Elizabeth Marsh of Duke found that it's possible to correct misinformation, but the correction may not last much more than a week. Their study of 50 students showed the more strongly someone believed they were right, the more efficient they were at accepting and remembering a correction. Half the participants that immediately took the same test again after learning the correct answers corrected their mistakes 86% of the time. They were also more likely to get it right the second time if they had really believed their previous answers were correct than if they had less confidence in their facts. People believe what they want to believe.  Even when it comes to Global Warming they point to anecdotal evidence.  "We never had winters like this when I was a kid."  Our lives are a blip in the history of climate, and when factored to the greater number of years, meaningless.  Reverting to the anecdotal in such an argument points to the personal desire to believe in a point, regardless of factual evidence. A lot of the time, people will believe things without good reason.  The fairness of their point of view is indicated by how they respond to even-handed, fair criticism of their position.  The evidence of an opposing view also tests their propensity to the truth.  When a person's view is refuted and weakened by evidence, do they still stand behind their point of view?  Will they adjust their point of view based on the evidence that comes in?
